The Old Williamsonian Club      Cricket blasts off Our OWCC cricketers have started their season on a high note. In a friendly "1st XI" fixture, Luke Butcher, Sean Holbrook and James Whitnell all retired having completed half-centuries in a total of 271 for 9 off their allotted 40 overs. Rainham were soon in trouble as both Phil Patterson and Jimmy Masters took two quick wickets apiece and they settled for some batting practice in reaching 148 for 7. New boy, Hugo Parnell managed to get off on the wrong foot running out captain, Jon Child! He did make up for it with his bowling though. Both our Under 13 and Under 15 Colts won their opening fixtures against Blue Bell Hill. Callum Swift retired in the U13s having reached 25 but the Sunday star was definitely Harry Stanford in the U15s who scored 60 and then took 4 wickets including a hat-trick!!Nets are held at the School on Mondays commencing at 1800hrs for the U13s with U15s and U17s and seniors commencing from @1900hrs.   Details...

Cricket 1st XI romp to title
Written by Christopher Halls
Wednesday, 09 September 2009

Congratulations to the OW 1st XI cricket team who won Division 1B of the Kent Feeder League. This puts them well on the way to achieving their ambition of playing Kent League cricket. Superbly lead by Simon Wood, who has now emigrated to Canada, they lost only one game with one abandonment and sixteen victories. Their success was mainly based around a superb bowling attack and top quality fielding ( very much down to Jon Child's training regime) although they could also score runs when required.

Not to be totally outdone, the 2nd XI, lead by Marc King, also gained promotion by finishing third in Division 2C in what will be a different looking Kent Feeder League in 2010.

Finally, the Sunday XI, lead by Luke Butcher, narrowly failed to regain their title in the Medway Area Sunday Cricket League by finishing second. This was largely due to a couple of lacklustre performances but also to a remarkable defeat at the hands of GEC who included four players who play for OWCC on Saturdays!

Great season.

Congratulations to all below who were winners in the draws for April to September. The earlier of these draws were delayed whilst the organisers waited for cheques to clear from new members etc. Apologies. Interest will not be paid because, sadly, the cost of paper for a cheque exceeds that of the interest that may have been due! Well done, Gordon Brown!
